One such nutrient is zinc, which plays a critical role in the production of several enzymes essential for hair growth and thickness. Without adequate levels of zinc, you are going to have a hard time growing new hair and may experience dryness, which can leave your locks looking dull. Zinc is involved in the making of several different enzymes, - without zinc, you don’t get good growth in the hair, as well as thickness.

These are great forms of Omega 3 fatty acids - remember quality is important when it comes to skin health. 

It’s important to note that having a diet in omega 3 fatty acids is extra anti-inflammatory. If you are someone who struggles with alopecia for example, this is typically a direct cause of too much inflammation. 

  • Cod liver oil 
  • Fish (salmon, sardines, oysters)

Plant sources of omega-3s include flaxseeds, chia seeds, hemp seeds, walnuts, and leafy green vegetables like spinach and kale.



Understanding The Role of Cortisol in Hair Loss

Stress is also a very common factor for hair loss, hair thinning, and/or scalp dryness.

Things like pregnancy, an emotional loss, an upcoming surgery, or even over-exercising can dramatically raise your cortisol. An increase in cortisol requires your body to produce more zinc. And if your body is deficient in zinc, then you are going to have a tough time when it comes to new hair growth.

This completely changed my hair when I had one in my apartment. A great step in the right direction of hair health is getting a shower filter. Tap water in the US is unfortunately very low quality. Harsh contaminated water definitely has an impact on skin + hair health. Conventional products these days are terrible. There’s no sugar coating that reality. My hair learned that the hard way. 
  5. Lower your cortisol - this is the most important one in my opinion. It is not uncommon to go through a traumatic life event or a stressful time, and completely lose some hair! Learning how to lower your cortisol is great for hair health, skin health, and overall optimal health. 
  6. Smoking - it dries your hair out. It oxidizes your hair, and overall ages hair + skin pretty quickly.
